something i love about this balcony is how quiet it is at night. even though i’m located in the busiest city in the world, i can come out and experience the quiet stillness only interrupted by the distant blinking lights of a bridge or a faraway airplane or the train rumbling over the river between manhattan and brooklyn. the illuminated buildings give discreet glimpses into the lives of others on the street and every once in a while voices carry from neighboring roofs and balconies and i know the people around me are experiencing the same thing as i am. the warm lights instill a sense of serenity and safety in an otherwise fearsomely large city, especially on a tranquil and lazy summer night
